Peter Campbell to retire at end of season

After a 34-year career in Canadian Interuniversity Sport basketball, Wilfrid Laurier men’s basketball coach Peter Campbell has announced he will retire at the end of the 2015-16 season.

Campbell has spent the last 16 years of his career as the head coach of the Golden Hawk program. He will finish as the all-time winningest coach in school history with 150 victories in 326 regular season games entering this week.

His overall CIS head coach regular season record stands at 305-233, 150-176 with Laurier. He is a six-time Ontario University Athletics coach of the year, was named CIS coach of the year in 1996-97, a two-time Wilson Cup champion with Laurentian University and has had seven appearances at the national championship.

Campbell has spend time with Team Canada as a coach, winning bronze with the 1986 women’s national team at the World Championship and the 2013 men’s cadet team at the FIBA Americas Championship.
