The baseball season for the Wilfrid Laurier University Golden Hawks is officially over.

Hosting the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) playoffs, Laurier was unable to capitalize on the opportunity to win a championship in front of a home crowd on a chilly Saturday at Bechtel Park.

The first of three games the Hawks played came against the Brock Badgers and was a carry-over from the previous weekend, which saw the game suspended due to heavy rain.

This past weekend promised good action for Wilfrid Laurier University’s women’s fastpitch team, but it didn’t promise good weather.

The squad fought an ongoing rainstorm and capitalized on two of three games, defeating the Windsor Lancers in both meetings, 10-4 and 16-1.

The lone loss came against the Western Mustangs on Sunday afternoon in a wet 14-1 deficit.

On a brisk evening at Jack Couch Park in Waterloo, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks played two crucial baseball games against the cross-town Waterloo Warriors, who coming into the evening, were one game ahead of the Hawks in the standings.

In a make up doubleheader that carried over from Sunday after a rainout, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks’ baseball squad welcomed the Western Mustangs to Bechtel Park for two games on Wednesday, October 5th.

Laurier baseball is one of the most competitive teams in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) this season.

The expectations for the team are grand, but perhaps no player has more pressure to succeed than reigning OUA rookie of the year and team MVP Nathan Loehle.

While the outfielder Nathan Loehle has been limited to playing designated hitter due to a shoulder injury, he is still able to contribute with his all-star batting, a talent he discovered at a young age.

The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s baseball team had a rough weekend, winning only one of their four match-ups. In their double header against the Western Mustangs, the Hawks were swept, while they split another set against the Brock Badgers.
