    Gaining Strength

    Here’s what my week’s been like so far:

    Monday

    Hadn’t gotten the chance to get to the Bella Centre on the weekend, and since NGO registration wasn’t until noon I was stuck in the lineup for a few hours before I got in. The Bella Centre is where the official negotiations take place. Besides all of the country delegations, access is granted to hundreds of NGOs and media. Names are submitted weeks in advance, and prior to entering the centre a badge has to be created with a (terrible) photo and barcode for scanning upon entry and departure.

    Luckily with hundreds of people in line it was easy to make new friends and I ended up chatting for most of the wait with Shahzeen, who is researching human behaviour and climate change for her post doc at Columbia’s Earth Institute. We had some interesting discussions, which I may talk about...

    The first few days

    I don't really mind my swollen, slightly bruised ankle now that I've remembered that Bill Bryson also had a fall when he was traipsing around Europe. In Neither Here Nor There, he trips down a hill in Durbuy, Belgium, and lies at the bottom for awhile contemplating life. My fall was much less glamorous, as I missed a step whilst entering a corner store in the porn district; I was just looking for the right brand of SIM card, honest!

    Anyway, it looks worse than it is, and might actually start to get better if I stop walking around on it for hours. Walking has been my greatest pastime for the last few days, and I daresay I'm not interested in stopping. Getting lost and then finding my way again is great fun in such a beautiful city, not to mention with so many beautiful people around. I don't have...
