OUA releases new football schedule

As a result of the University of Waterloo suspending it's football program for a full year following a steroids scandal which saw nine Warriors' players test positive for using performance enhancing drugs, Ontario University Athletics (OUA) officials were forced to make changes to the schedule for the upcoming season.
It was announced today that the eight-week season has been expanded to nine, and each team will receive a bye week when they were scheduled to play UW.
The big news for Laurier fans is that the Golden Hawks will now open their season against bitter rivals, the Western Mustangs.
The Hawks were not originally slated to play the Mustangs in 2010 due to the fact that the league has 10 teams and an eight-week season. Therefore, every year each school does not play one of their potential opponents, last year the Hawks didn't play the York Lions, and this season they were supposed to skip the Mustangs.
The Laurier-Western rivalry will kick-off the 2010 football season for both teams on Sept. 1 at London's TD Waterhouse Stadium at a time to be announced later.
