Knox named player of the year

ANTIGONISH, NS— On Wednesday night, the Canadian Interunviersity Sport (CIS) women's hockey award winners were announced as part of the 2010 national championship, and Laurier's Liz Knox took home the biggest prize of the evening.
The fourth-year goalie was named the CIS player of the year, becoming the first Golden Hawk in Laurier women's hockey history to win the award. Knox led the nation in every major goaltending statistic this season, even tying a CIS single-season record in shut-outs with 11. The sociology major was the backbone of the Hawks' stellar year which saw them go undefeated until the final game of the season, finishing 26-0-1. Knox was between the pipes for all but two of those games.
In the playoffs, Knox continued her amazing consistency, posting two shut-outs in four games, leading the purple and gold to a 4-0 post-season, on their way to their seventh consecutive Ontario University Athletics (OUA) championship.
Also honoured on Wednesday night was Hawks' rookie Candice Styles. Styles, who already won the OUA rookie of the year award two weeks ago, was named to the CIS all-rookie team after a season in which she scored eight goals and added 12 assists, putting her third on the team with 20 points.
