Referendum

"I am in favour of a $0.75 per half-credit increase (up to 4 credits per semester) in the Wilfrid Laurier University Student Publications fee, effective September 1st, 2010. This increase will help offset the increased rent being charged by WLU for space on campus and the increased operating expenses of running our services such as The Cord, The Sputnik, WLU’er and Orbiter (student planners), Blueprint, Keystone and The Carnegie (yearbooks) and Radio Laurier, as well as future capital projects." Yes or No.

Yes (1096)
No ( 878)

I'm really glad to see that this referendum passed. I don't go to WLU anymore but still live in Waterloo and have been following this election. I've noticed that Blueprint Magazine keeps getting tinier and tinier and I can only presume that this is a result of poor funding. Unfortunate too, because the mag keeps getting better and better and I look for it every month in K-W. Very much hope to see the issues getting thicker now that WLUSP struck it rich(er!)

Really? We keep getting more and more students... that should be enough additional funding.

They should focus on money management..

I think the referendum was just a way to get radio laurier back, it's the only one that doesn't have it's own space, and it was cut before because of a lack of funding. I really don't see the CORD getting shut down. Ever.

Agreed - I don't think it's a matter of not having ENOUGH money, so much as a problem of WLUSP not spreading it around fairly. I do love the Blueprint and I'm also really glad that Radio Laurier was adopted by WLUSP, but The Cord is a total rag and yet my roommate keeps attending their free Brick Tours. Something doesn't seem right there! Also - maybe with some of this additional funding, they can hire some copy editors?

How many spoiled votes was there?

Ryan,

The Brick tours are practically the only perk for being a volunteer for WLUSP. They get them pretty cheap from Brick in exchange for advertising space. They aren't just Cord Brick tours, but are actually open to all WLUSP volunteers.

But your right, their copy edit dept. is rubbish.

I love the irony of the incorrect usage of 'your' in a comment criticizing copy editing.
